Wye Valley spent another great day at the Swansea Bay 10k. The weather yet again was very kind to us. There were some notable performances by those that raced ; Luke Mason finished 21st – 34.07, Harry Franklin VO/70 – 44.37 and Christine Motteram finished first ladies vet O/65 in a time of 51.48mins. Lisa Miles beat her PB by 10mins!! John O’Driscoll picked up his race vest but decided against another assault on his PB and went on a tour of the pubs in Swansea!!. There’s dedication for you.

Phil Smith provide the questions for the coach quiz but it seems the questions were so bizarre they caused the engine to overheat. 10 gallons of water failed to cure the problem and we were forced to spend another hour in the pub while a replacement came from Hereford.
Happy days.

Wye Valley Runner Stuart Moore has won the 2009 South Wales Series, organised by the Welsh Fell Runners’ Association. The races took place in the Black Mountains, Brecon Beacons and Pembrokeshire with runners having to compete in at least four out of the seven to qualify for the overall standings.
Stuart finished sixth in the Series last year and is delighted with topping the table this time – it’s also his first individual running league win, so he’s (almost) been tempted to retire whilst ahead!
If any other Wye Valley Runners fancy a bit of fell running, have a look at the article in the last newsletter or check out www.wfra.org.uk

Merv’s Berlin Update

September 27, 2009

Merv Berlin Marathon 2009

Merv Berlin Marathon 2009

Had a great run in roasting temperatures -27%- but I managed to keep running and finish in 3h.38m.21s, 19minutes quicker than my marathon debut in New York, finishing 6936 male runner out of 38000+ runners.
It was quite an experience and I would recommend Berlin to anyone who hasn’t already done it.
Thanks to everyone who has sponsered me on behalf of Breast Cancer Haven, to date we’ve raised £2100+ gift aid, which is fantastic.
Best wishes
Merv

FUN DUATHLON

September 24, 2009

Hereford Triathlon Club are going to hold a Fun Duathlon to end the season on Sunday the 11th of October, starting at 11.00hrs from the leisure centre, Holmer road.
It’s a very basic set up, lean bikes against the fence and run/amble 5k, bike/coast 20k then amble/crawl the last 5k.
Format to be decided but it will probably be a mass start and draught legal for a difference but details on the day.
Free to all, so if you haven’t done one and fancy a bash just turn up. No prizes just bragging rights, if it goes well we may do something better next year and arrange it more thoroughly.
