Cotswold Way Relay

December 17, 2009

Wye Valley Runners

After last years success the club has agreed to support this event again in 2010 and are proposing to enter two teams. If anyone is interested please add your name to the list on the club notice board. In the New Year we will have a meeting with everyone that is interested to explain what is involved, costs etc, with a view of putting teams together. For further information contact a committee member or Phil Butler on 07703 752 487

You can also look on the race web site http://www.cotswoldwayrelay.co.uk for full details

Welcome to the organiser’s pages for the 2010 Cotswold Way Relay

On these pages you should find all the information required to get the team in place for the event. Hopefully the participants can access the internet and equip themselves with the information for themselves, thus simplifying the responsibility of the Team Leaders.

THE EVENT

The Cotswold Way Relay is now in its 19th year, operated as 10 back-to-back races, starting each stage with a mass start at the expected arrival time of the 1st runner from the previous stage.

Running from Chipping Campden in the early morning, through to the arrival at Bath Abbey in the early evening, using the waymarked route of the Cotswold Way as our route, the relay is over 90% off-road, taking in many hills, woodlands, fields and tracks, all offering spectacular views of the countryside around (if ever a runner looked up from the path to take it in!).

We split the route up into 10 varied stages, varying in ascent and length, to offer a differing flavour for each runner in the team. There are no marshalls on the route, so route finding is all part of the spirit of the event. In recent years the Cotswold Way Authority has considerably improved the signage on route, as part of its upgrade to National Trail status, but there’s always one or two who speed past a sign to take time to appreciate some countryside off the main route. The race route follows the National Trail precisely, with the exception of the end of Stage 7 into Wotton-under-Edge, where we avoid the High St for safety reasons.

Many runners do a recce of their stage before the event, others fall in behind someone else. Most runners find that doing a recce through the beautiful Cotswolds in the company of other runners is all part of the great pleasure derived from this event. You will certainly observe more of the views during the recce than in the race.

Wye Valley Runners – December 2009

December 13, 2009

As we near the Christmas / New Year period there is a lot happening at the club during the next few weeks.
Sunday 20 December – The Festive Foarage
Instead of our usual pre-Christmas Muddy Woody practice run, this year we have devised the Festive Forage!
This combines a run in the woods with a quiz and treasure hunt.
Meet at Haugh Wood top carpark at 9.30 AM where we will arrange teams to ensure that everyone has a team leader with (hopefully!) enough knowledge of the area to make sure that nobody gets lost or left behind.
There will be a prize for the winning team and bonus points awarded for fancy dress.
Results in the Rowing Club bar at approx 2.00 PM.
Wednesday 23 December – The 3rd annual fancy dress run
It’s the last club night before Christmas, so use your imagination and wear something different that will make you stand out from the crowd.
Prizes awarded for best male & female costume.
Friday 1 January – New Year’s Day 10K
Our first race of the new year has attracted a large number of runners in recent years and we need plenty of helpers on the day. If you can be available to help then please arrive by 10.00 AM.
For those of you who intend to run in the race it will help us if you can pre-enter and this will save you the £4 surcharge for entries on the day.
Forms are available on the website.
Muddy Woody 6
Although the race is several weeks away, entries have been arriving at a record rate which means that we are likely to reach our limit well before Christmas. If you want to run but haven’t yet entered you need to act quickly to avoid disappointment.
For more news of club activities please continue to check the club website to keep up to date.
Best wishes to all Wye Valley runners and their families for Christmas and hope you all stay fit and healthy for the New Year.
Cheers
Dave
