Wye Valley Runners – Spring 2010
April 20, 2010
Hi All
At long last we seem to have said goodbye to winter, which means that we can now look ahead to many months of running away from the city streets.
Alternative club training runs
Following the successful format from last year, once a month during the spring and summer we will move one of our regular Monday or Wednesday training runs away from the Rowing Club to give everyone the opportunity to try some new routes.
Kicking off , on Monday 26 April we will be meeting at the Rose Gardens Pub at Munstone – Post code HR1 1LH.
Meet at 6.00 pm for a 6.15 start. Simon Oliver has arranged an off-road route which should be suitable for all abilities.
(Although everyone is welcome at the Rose Gardens, feel free to run from the Rowing Club that night if you prefer.)
Thereafter, we have pencilled in the following dates for similar runs :
Monday 17 May
Monday 21 June
Monday 26 July
Monday 16 August
Monday 6 September
Full details of these will be posted nearer the time.
If you have a favourite route of your own that you would like to share with the rest of the club then get in touch if you would like to arrange something on one of these dates.
Cotswold relay ( Saturday 26 June )
There will be a meeting for anyone interested in taking part on Wednesday 28 April at 7.30 pm in the Rowing Club bar. We have already entered two teams with the option to register a third team if there is sufficient interest.

WYE VALLEY RUNNERS SNOWDONIA March 2010 – By Jan Edwards
April 10, 2010
SNOWDONIA
March 2010
Having successfully climbed Ben Nevis last year with a group from Wye Valley, Sue Sherwood suggested and organised a Snowdon challenge.
We left Hereford in several vehicles and arrived at the Vagabond bunkhouse, a gathering of 19 altogether.
The weather was kind to us the next morning and we set off from Rhyd Ddu and all got to the Snowdon summit. There was adrenalin flowing as we made our way across some narrow ridges. Some bravery awards should be issued to certain people who overcame fear of heights!
The café at the top wasn’t open, in fact a snowdrift blocked the door.
We descended, a group of more enthusiastic athletes took another peak on the way back.
A sociable evening was spent in the bunkhouse in Wye Valley tradition
with the usual banter and jokes about snoring in the boys dorm.
The majority wanted to bag another peak so we tackled Moel Siabod the next morning. This was quite challenging, with some scrambling/ crawling up steep rocky areas . The views were wonderful at the top.
A great weekend, well done and thanks to Sue and Dave for getting it organised.
It has been suggested that we go for the Wye Valley Runners version of the three peaks challenge…Ben Nevis 2009… Snowdon 2010… and next Scafell Pike ?? when ?? …watch this space!
