Supporting your club

As the Covid 19 restrictions continue there are all sorts of things we can do to support each other and keep the club momentum going until we can meet again.

Always follow the government guidelines for your daily exercise. Keep looking ahead and make sure you keep at least two metres from anyone

Wear your club vest and smile. Keep the Wye Valley Flag flying

Make sure you are signed up as a member. That way we can ensure you are notified about virtual club events. It also will help the club to get through this difficult time in good shape. We have taken a financial hit by cancelling the Muddy Woody. It was the right thing to do and we will be okay. But we have had to pay out for fixed costs and it will really help if everyone is signed up as a member. It’s less than 50p a week

Use the club team app and the Facebook pages to share your news. As time goes on this will become more and more important.

Muddy wOody news

Following the postponement of the race due to Storm Dennis, and subsequently the outbreak of the Coronavirus is it becoming difficult to find a new date for this years race. With the increasingly busy race calendar in September/October, the committee has reluctantly decided to cancel this years race and put all our efforts into next years 25th anniversary event.
We have set a provisional date of Feb 21st 2021 and we would love to see you all to celebrate with us. Places will be very sought after. So, next week we will announce how to defer, transfer or get a refund. We are working on the process with our provider over the weekend and will be in touch with all registered runners just as soon as we can. We can’t thank everyone enough for their patience, messages of support and offers of help. It means a lot to us.
Standby for details next week. Keep safe, keep running and look after each other.

England Athletics has now updated its advice to all clubs and advises that all face -to face activity such as club training sessions, committees, running groups and social events are suspended for now. As a result all club activity (including this weeks track session and Friday evening session) is cancelled until further notice. We know how much the club means to everyone - but we also know that everyone will support this decision.

Looking ahead, the Cotswold Relay committee are considering options - but that looks unlikely to happen as things stand . We will keep you posted.

Let’s concentrate on looking out for each other, training sensibly, keeping well and looking forward to normal business resuming soon.

MUDDY WOODY 2020 RACE POSTPONED

img.jpg

Wye Valley Brewery Muddy Woody 6 2020 postponement

Why did we postpone the race?

This weekend Storm Dennis is due to hit our region, bringing with it 2 yellow weather warnings for wind and rain. This means gale force gusting winds of up to 50mph and heavy rain on Saturday and Sunday. With the combined risk of falling woodland debris, volunteer marshals being exposed for 3 hours plus and no cover for participants, we felt that the risk was too high for the event to take place this weekend as we have a duty of care for all runners and marshals. The Forestry Commission is working closely with us and we take their advice seriously. They have already advised that the woods will be closed for public access on Saturday making course set up impossible. Obviously the forecast could change between now and Sunday, but we have left it as late as we could so to keep our stakeholders, runners, and volunteers marshals informed. We didn’t take this decision lightly.

What happens now?

We’ve decided to postpone rather than cancel and will confirm a new date as soon as possible. We need time to consult with the Forestry Commission, landowners, friends in local running clubs and our licensing authority.

As soon as we announce the new date we will also offer a refund to those who can't make it. Full details on the refund process will be announced in conjunction with the new date.

Many thanks for your patience and understanding.

Muddy Woody Important Update - Storm Denis

The Forestry Commission has informed us that they will be making a decision at noon tomorrow Friday 14th as to whether they will allow us access to the woods for the race. We will make a further announcement at 1pm tomorrow with a complete update. We apologise for the uncertainty and ask for your understanding as we work through the detail. We will of course update on possible new dates, any refund procedure etc tomorrow if necessary. Many thanks

Rotherwas Cross Country 12th Jan 11.00 am

River-Wye-at-Rotherwas-3.jpg

Click here for a map of the Rotherwas cross country course. Each lap is 2.15 miles. The course is flat but muddy with a few fallen trees to go around.

Parking will be at the Balfour Beatty car park, Thorn Business Park, Rotherwas, Hereford, HR2 6JT.  Please follow the signs and marshals instructions to get to the start. There will be portaloos at the start/finish plus water, squash and biscuits at the finish. There are also areas where bicycles can be locked up.

Please don’t park elsewhere on the industrial estate or nearby housing estate. The car park is the closest place to the start and we want to insure the continued support of the businesses and residents.

Children and dogs are welcome but please keep them on a lead and supervised at all times. There is a lake on the course and numerous former WW2 buildings which are not safe to go into. Please don’t attempt to explore these as they contain exposed asbestos and ground contaminated by explosive and corrosive materials. (Don’t worry runners, you’re not going that close to them!)

Please contact herefordtriathlonclub@hotmail.com if you’ve got any questions.

Queenswood Cross Country - be prepared

tea-in-the-thermos.jpg

We are looking forward to welcoming athletes to Queenswood this coming Sunday. The weather is set to be cold - probably just hovering above zero . Unfortunately we cannot offer the usual hot cup of tea after the race due to issues with getting power on site - so please bring a hot flask if you fancy a hot drink - or alternatively the cafe on site will be open for warmth and shelter. We will of course be offering water and a freshly baked doughnut to all finishers .We also suggest you come wrapped up with some extra dry clothing to swap in to after the race. The good news is that as things stand there is little chance of snow, rain, gales or blizzards - but things might change. See you all there.

Wye Valley Club Championship 2020 - Announcing the Super 6

Super-6-Submenu.jpg

There have been lots of requests to bring back the club championship . Previously named the super 8, the frosty 5 or the super ten .Next year we continue with the Wye Valley tradition of naff titles and welcome the new club champ - The Super Six. The winner of each race is awarded 100 points - second 99 etc. Different leagues for lads and lasses. As the season progresses you can watch your progress and then at the end of the year we award prizes - simples,

We will also try and award vet prizes in ten year categories. It’s a bit of fun designed to encourage competition and help everyone improve.

Queenswood Cross Country - Sunday 1st December

Herefordshire Cross Country  League 3 – Queenswood Country Park

Sunday December 1st, 2019

Wye Valley Runners welcome you to the 3rd race in the series, which is again at Queenswood Country Park, Dinmore Hill, located just off the A49 between Hereford and Leominster.

Please try to car share for this race as parking is limited and can cost up to £4 depending on how long you stay. When arriving you will be directed towards the woodland car park, which we will fill up first. Later arrivals will be using the main car park near the main road. Wherever you are parked, please ensure that you purchase a ticket as enforcement cameras are in operation throughout the park.

The course is similar to last years winter race, but starts further back towards the south of the site, on the track. It is about 5 minutes walk from the car parks. A few hundred yards from the start, you will take a left at the Gruffalo before heading up to the top of the road. After a sweeping right turn, you will come back down the road before joining the Deer Trail. After a loop of the north of the park, you will come back to the road and go back up it, before picking up the trail again to go round the south of the park. There is again the extra loop to take you down the bottom of the hill (be careful at the steps) and then the steep climb back up to the main trail. The good news is that you will only have to negotiate the steep climb on the first lap. After re-joining the main track, you will shortly be back to the start, where you will again leave the track to take a detour around the Gruffalo, before heading out on the second lap. The finish will be slightly uphill, just after passing the Gruffalo and adjacent to the woodland car park.

The course is likely to be quite wet and is a mixture of forest trails, made up tracks and a short stretch of tarmac. The course is not suitable for spikes.

There will be a refreshments tent in the woodland car park, but the café will also be open near the main car park. Be aware that there may be members of the public around (assuming they can find somewhere to park!), so please take extra care.
