Shobdon XC details

Click to download Shobdon XC detailsThe final summer cross country is less than a week away.

Wye Valley's lead looks to have assured them the title, and both James Richards and Becky Davies look poised to claim the Male and Female categories.

With that in mind, and to make sure neither lose their way to the event, here are the race details from Mike B....

Please find attached the details for the final race in the 2013 Herefordshire Summer Off Road League to be held at Shobdon on Wed. 24th July.

No postcode has been included as this would direct you up the church drive where you would encounter bollards which would prevent you reaching the car parking area. The venue will, however, be well signed.

The race will be followed, as soon as the results are worked out, by a presentation ceremony at Shobdon Visitor Centre.

Thanks to Richard and Penny Corbett for kindly granting us permission to run on their scenic premises.

See you there,

Mike B.

John and Becki Secure Victory in Inaugral Gord’s 6 Fownhope Run (UPDATED: with Results)

Click to download Gords 6 resultsThe Gord’s 6 is run in memory of Gordon Clements one of the founder members of Wye Valley Runners and every year all the proceeds are donated to a local charity and this year the charity selected is Hereford Haven Breast Cancer.

John Pullen won the men’s race in an impressive time of 43mins particularly given the hot conditions. Matt James  of Hereford Couriers was just 17 seconds behind in second place with Jeremy Jehan of Wye Valley Runners taking third position.

The race location for 2013 was moved to the Fownhope Caplor course and  the runners found this to be an  absolute gem with breathtaking  picturesque scenery. The race started  from the Leisure Park  across the fields then along the river Wye to Caplor Hill routing up to Caplor fort & farm then back along the fields to Fownhope. The course presents some challenging climbs and just to add to the difficulty fate intervened to provide one of the hottest evenings we have seen for years .

Becki Davies of Wye Valley Runners  had another good run winning the ladies race and finishing in 7th place overall in a time of 52.19, Lynne Compton and Jan Edwards also of Wye Valley Runners finished 2nd and 3rd respectively.

Wye Valley Runners secured the men’s and ladies team awards. The winning men were John Pullen, Jeremy Jehan and Mike Fawcett. The winning ladies were Becki Davies, Lynne Compton and Jan Edwards.

Wye Valley Runners wish to thank Paul Bouston and Ian Matthews for their many hours of hard work mapping out this course and the many marshals, helpers and especially the runners who braved the hot conditions.  We would also  like to thank Kath and Bernice for yet again providing delicious cakes and Fran Clements for presenting the prizes.

James and Becki Lead Wye Valley Home at Westhope (UPDATED: with Results)

Click to download Westhope XC resultsWye Valley Runners wish to thank Hereford Couriers and particularly Clive Rowberry for putting on a great XC at Westhope last night. The venue was well signposted and the course was extremely well signed and marshalled. Thanks also to Mike Blenkinsop and the league organisers for their efforts and support.

It was another great turn-out from the Valley  fielding an incredible 37 of 103 runners and there is a really great team spirit in evidence at the moment which is really nice to see.  Based on the pre-race chat not many of us were looking forward to the race due to the combination of a warm evening , hilly course and  rock hard ground . Still nice to get some warm weather for a change.!!

There were some really good performances from the men and women in most categories.   James Richards won the men’s race with another fine performance and Mr Consistency John Pullen took 3rd place. Jeremy Jehan (11th), Steven Flowers (12th), Martin Whitefoot (20th) and Adam Michinok (23rd) were also well placed. Becki Davies put in another terrific run to win the womens race with Daneen Hughes finishing 4th lady overall. Laura Tootell (5th), Jo Morgan Rolfe (6th) , Becki Ansfield (10th) and Danca Machackovw (11th) were also well placed.

Some pictures have already been posted on facebook and more pictures will be posted on flickr as soon as we get an opportunity and will let you know once this is done. Race results will also be posted shortly.

Super 8 series after 4 races

Now we get down to business.....

Over the next few weeks the races will be coming thick and fast, and this will see the possibility of largeClick to download current positions changes to the current positions.

Currently Nikki Tyler heads the ladies competition with 187 points. Hot on her heels is the ever present Lynne Compton (176 points) for whom the term consistency seems most apt. The final podium spot is occupied by Becky Davies (148 points) who considerably boosted her score with third place overall at yesterday's Crocodile 8.

Meanwhile, Luke Mason continues to dominate the mens competition at the moment. Dropping only 1 point over the first four races sits him comfortably in firts place. Hedd Jones (158 points) and Craig Rees (150 points) complete the top 3. Strong and steady performances have given them well deserved placings over the first four events.

Up next... The Magic Roundabout on Sunday, and a race that I highly recommend if you've never entered it before.

Catch you next weekend with the latest Super 8 update.

Frosty 5 series - The Final Ranking

Click to download the Frosty 5 resultsThe final race in the Frosty 5 series has been run so without further ado here are the final rankings.

Mens

The top 3 places in this keenly contested competition have stayed the same for all the later races, although the point difference shrank significantly once the best best 5 results were taken into account. So, congratualtions are due to:

  1. Mike Fawcett (250 points)
  2. John Pullen (246 points)
  3. Adam Michmiok (242 points)

Ladies

In a similar vein the ladies table has seen the same 3 competitors atop the tree for the last few races. Only 1 point separated first and second place, and third place only a further 5 behind. The ladies finished as thus:

  1. Jane Rowlands (246)
  2. Kathryn King (245)
  3. Sandrine Gorin (240)

Frosty Winter 5 series after 7 races

Click to download Frosty 5 results  Updated: results now included amended entries for Shaun Hoyes

Sunday's excursion to Presteigne brought to an end the latest winter cross country series, and with it the seventh race of our Frosty Winter 5 series.

Only three races now remain for our intrepid members to gain the points which will count towards their final tally, and at this point podium places are still up for grabs!

Mike Fawcett currently sits a top the Men's competition, closely followed by John Pullen and Adam Michmiok respectively. Indeed, Adam's excellent performance at Presteigne has seen him knock out one of his previous lower scores, and in an 8 point swing reduce the gap from John to 2 points.

Meanwhile, the ladies event is beginning to take shape as more competitors reach the minimum five races required to be eligible for the overall prizes. Jane Rowland's superb season is reflected by the fact she currently holds first place from Sandrine Gorin, who in her debut season has already helped the ladies team retain the winter XC championship. Rounding out the trio at the top is Becki Ansfield for whom the word 'consistant' was seemingly invented.

It will interesting to see how the scoring is affected over the remaining races, where there is a possibility of fewer Wye Valley entrants at each event. The potential to increase your points haul could see some tactical choices being made by our more competitive members!
